About Heron Pointe
Berthoud Colorado, a charming small town on Colorado’s Front Range distinguished by its combination of the past & the present is a perfect place to build your future. The tree-lined streets are charismatic and reminiscent of their “Garden Spot of Colorado” nickname. Like many communities, Berthoud has historic ties to the railroads. Where the Colorado Central Railroad was to cross the Little Thompson Creek, a depot, railroad section house and water tank were installed by miner turned farmer Lewis Cross. The name of the town of “Little Thompson” was later changed to Berthoud in honor of civil engineer & surveyor E.L. Berthoud who surveyed the valley for the rail route. Furthermore, to accommodate railroads needs, the town was physically moved to the bluff one mile north of the river to alleviate the problems the steam engines were having getting out of the valley in the winter. By horses pulling skids, Berthoud was on the move. In addition to Berthoud’s rail history, it has a history with agriculture as many western towns do. Water diverted from the Big & Little Thompson Rivers irrigated the arid Colorado soil to grow alfalfa, sugar beets, wheat, corn & barley. Berthoud maintains its small town feel with its historic districts, an All-American Main Street and small town festivals like “Berthoud Days”. Berthoud may be on the state highway system, but it is rooted in history & in Colorado’s past.
